Theory of Change.
If communities build culturally aligned, Veteran & First Responder-led, upstream prevention systems that restore mission, identity, belonging, purpose, and physiological regulation, while offering pathways into clinical care, then Veteran & First Responder suicide can be prevented at the population level, including among those not engaged in mental-health services.
About Us
22Mohawks Corp is a veteran-founded nonprofit dedicated to preventing suicide among veterans and first responders through upstream, culturally aligned prevention. We focus on restoring purpose, identity, belonging, and resilience before crisis occurs.
Our programs combine peer connection, physical challenge, companion dogs, and long-term support systems proven to reduce suicide risk, even among those not engaged in traditional mental health care. Built by those who have served, 22Mohawks meets veterans and first responders where they are and walks alongside them as they rediscover meaning, strength, and hope.
How bad is veteran suicide?
The Numbers don't lie.
0+
More than 140,000 veterans have died by suicide since the global war on terror started in 2001.
0+
More than 22 veterans die by suicide per day. For perspective, that’s more deaths each year than the total number of American military deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq.
0
Pentagon figures show the suicide rate for active-duty troops across all service branches rose by over a third in five years, up to 24.8 per 100,000 active-duty members in 2018.
